Take the high road.

Get ready St. Louis. The 12-mile I-64 highway renovation is about to change the driving habits of most of the locals. It's going to be great when it's finished but the proposed three year construction will put a significant strain on the already busy traffic patterns that run straight through the center of our city. For the most up to date info on the project visit the The New I-64 website. It has a really cool interactive study map complete with proposed artist renderings and aerial videos.

Construction sites using more outdoor.
US spending on outdoor advertising increased 8.6 percent in 2005, according to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA) We're happy to hear that construction site advertising is a growing segment of the grand format outdoor category. "It creates a statement," says Stephan Freitas, the chief marketing officer of the OAAA. "It's a real interesting way to reach consumers." Read the full story at the Charlotte Observer. We're excited about that trend. Check out a few of our construction signage projects.

See the green sites.

North America's two greatest rivers meet in the heart of the St Louis area. The Confluence Greenway celebrates an extraordinary heritage through an expanding network of natural areas, parks, outdoor recreation facilities and historic sites that radiate for 200 square miles from the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers in St. Louis. So, if your interested in biking, boating, birding, hiking, camping, fishing or hunting please visit the Greenway website to begin a search for your kind of outdoor recreation.

Home Sweet Home

The new Busch Stadium is ready for the next few decades of big time Cardinal baseball. It's difficult not to catch the excitement when everything in and around the stadium is all bright, shiny and new. We were commissioned to print a variety of projects for the new stadium including backlit panels, vinyl banners, pressure sensitive vinyl graphics and others too numerous to mention. Visit the New Busch Stadium section of the St Louis Cardinals website for loads of pictures and videos. Welcome to baseball heaven.

Soccer is big in Columbus.

The use of giant wallscapes and building wraps is definitely on the rise. We haven't seen many giant soccer balls though. It's no wonder The Columbus Crew's soccer ball wallscape promotion is getting a lot of attention. "We've gotten front-page coverage in The Columbus Dispatch and numerous television interviews. It has probably paid for itself in terms of its general news coverage already. I think it makes a statement about the type of presence we want to have in this market, the type of brand that we want to be - very noticeable and very impactful," said Crew general manager Mark McCullers. Commerce Color was chosen to print the flat part of the building wrap by our innovative friends at Orange Barrel Media. Get the full fabrication and installation story at the official site of the Columbus Crew.

Get a job.
How can you use a billboard to get a job? Mary Witt from Erie, Pennsylvania may soon have the answer to that question. Since being laid off from her city worker job she's tried employment agencies as well as internet employment sites without any success. Now she has turned to her own personal billboard ad and she's getting noticed. Get the full story from Big News Network. Don't forget to check out some of our billboards here.

Light pole banners redux.

Leave it to the innovators at betterwall.com to come up with a way to salvage and resell used light pole banners to well-heeled art lovers. Last year, Nora Weiser and her husband Nicolas did just that. They started selling vinyl pole banners from exhibits at 18 museums on their Web site. The banners, which typically sell for $300 to $800 each, feature subjects from pre-Inca figures to geishas and Toulouse-Lautrecs. After flapping in the breeze in Chicago, San Francisco, New York, or elsewhere, the limited-edition banners have gone, scrubbed and ready for hanging, to hundreds of collectors since the Weisers started selling them in May 2005. Get the full story at Yahoo News; An Arty Niche -- And Banner Sales. On the other hand, we've printed some shiny new pole banners that you can see on our light pole banner page.

Surf in smart land.
We work with a lot of very creative people. They work for some of the best ad agencies and creative firms in the country. We're happy to give you the opportunity to visit them where they work. Surf through our partial A-List of creatives, in the left column, to see what these locals are creating for their clients. Some of these creatives are already our clients and some are hopefully our future clients. Either way they all do the good stuff. When your finished surfing in smart land, come back and buy some banners!

Bigger is Better.
"America is a big country, notorious for big ideas, so it's no wonder we have a hankering for big graphics." So says the January 2006 issue of Digital Output magazine. Savvy marketers have learned that big graphics reach their customers where they work, live and play. With downtown streets and busy street corners alive with activity, spectacular wallscapes and building wraps capture a lot of attention. They're great for promoting sports events, specialized product advertising, building renovation projects and much more. One reason they work so well is their unconventional size. Many are custom fit to special architectural features of a building. Others are just plain big! One thing is sure, big outdoor messaging continues to make a big impression. Visit our wallscape page to see some of the big graphics we've produced.

The Super Bowl of Advertising.

Every year the Super Bowl of Advertising happens to be the advertising of the Super Bowl. Televised to huge audiences and glowing public awareness, sponsor placements have become the game's main sideshow event. So much so, ad agencies juice creativity at full tilt levels. The majority of these commercials, historically, are humorous and among a given year's fondly remembered chuckles. Via About.com.

Not new, but still cool.
Since it's unveiling in 1999 the Segway human transporter (HT) remains an icon of high technology. Somehow the magical stabilization system still manages to capture the imagination. Thanks to "how stuff works.com" for the easy explanation. The company has created a variety of models presumably filling a variety of our transportation needs, including an off-road model and a golfing model that carries your bag. Check out the video to get a look at the Segway in action. Although it's no longer new, it's still cool.

In record time.

Once the St. Louis Cardinal's season ended, the wrecking ball made quick work of the once fabulous Busch Stadium. And now the race is on to the season opener in the new and improved Busch Stadium. It's going to be a close one!

Take your desktop image to the next level.
A collection of some fantastic desktop images. Very cool transparent effect. Or is this just exceptional Photoshop trickery? Either way, It's quite amazing. Via Speak Up.

A Grand Good-Bye.
The Cardinals made the last game in Busch Stadium a memorable one winning their 100th game of the 05' season. And as the capacity crowd rose to a standing ovation for the final out of the ninth inning it was no less a final tribute to a grand old ballpark as well. Along with much anticipation for the final building stages of the new stadium, there was certainly no shortage of nostalgia surrounding the farewell ceremonies. More that 100 former cardinals were on hand to celebrate the ending of an era. Our friends at Warren Signs asked us to print an exclusive 12' x 15' vinyl banner used that day to commemorate the new stadium scheduled to open in time for the 06 season. It's good to have been a part of the great Busch Stadium's grand goodbye.

A few of Forbes favorites.
Forbes Magazine listed six companies in the St. Louis area among the 200 best small companies in the United States. Panera Bread, Talx, Labarge, Reliv International, Young Innovations and ESCO Technologies ranked 28, 29, 38, 43, 170 and 178, respectively. It gets a little tougher every year according to the brainiacs that compile the list. Visit Forbes to see what it takes to make the grade.

Point and shoot.

Autumn is one of the most amazing seasons of the year. Photograph the leaves in their transition from apple to lemon, orange, raspberry, and chocolate. Get a few tips from the great ones at BetterPhoto.com. Once you've captured the perfect fall image, we'll help you capture the moment forever by creating your very own custom wallpaper. It's almost as good as being there.

Did you Know?

The custom of placing chocolate on hotel pillows began in St Louis when the actor Cary Grant used chocolate for wooing purposes at our own Mayfair Hotel. The ice cream cone and iced tea were invented in St. Louis. So was kindergarten. The St. Louis Cardinals have won more world championships than any other National League team. Thanks to our friends at the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association for sharing these and other interesting tidbits about the great city we live and work in.

NCAA graphics... Here, there, everywhere.

Now that the 05 Final Four is over and we've congratulated the winners and the almost winners for providing some of the best basketball ever, we'd like to acknowledge some of the people who, in some way, were responsible for putting on the show. It's really just a tip of the hat to all the local folks who spiffied up their storefronts or planted a couple of trees or most importantly, displayed a "Welcome Basketball Fans" banner. The city is a better place for it. We printed a boatload of graphics for the show and are grateful to St Louis Local Organizing Committee who recognized our considerable capabilities and gave us the opportunity to paint the town. Check out our Final Four case study to see some samples of the graphics we printed.

Commerce Color goes Hollywood.

We were hired to produce the press wall for the recent St. Louis premiere of The Longest Yard. Our involvement included the printing, mounting and installation of the 40' x 8' wall used for press interviews outside of our own Tivoli Theater. We also provided a 16' x 8' press wall for the after party held at The City Museum. Most of the big stars attended the opening, including, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds and, of course, St. Louis native Nelly. Special thanks to our friends at Synergy who put the star studded event together. Man, those guys are good!

Bright lights, big city.
Ever wonder how much the big boys pay for the premium ad space in New York's City's Times Square? Outdoor industry bigwigs estimate the monthly rates for the 11 spaces on the two landmarks at 42nd street and Broadway at $200,000 to $350,000 each. According to AdAge.com they are also among the country's most effective advertisements. Now that's some premium exposure!

What makes the color in Commerce Color?
The science of color and what causes it. As much as you'll ever need to know about a subject we rely on so heavily in the large format digital printing industry. Thanks Coudal Partners.
